The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce
Case Study
The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1873, is the leading organization representing business in Winnipeg. Its mission is to foster an environment in which Winnipeg business can prosper. The Chamber continues to serve as the “voice of business”, ensuring that the business perspective is heard on the issues of the day.
Problem
As a model for Winnipeg business, The Chamber prides itself on being ahead of the curve when it comes to initiatives that improve overall efficiency. With over two thousand members and a multitude of vendors to pay, The Chamber accounting department was looking for ways to be more efficient, more cost effective and greener in the way it processed its payables and issued payments. In addition, with only two internal signing officers (President and Vice President), who are not always available due to meetings outside the office, there was the need to find an effective way to access signing officers in a a timely fashion. These were the issues and The Chamber was determined to find a better way.
Solution
The Chamber under the guidance of the Telpay staff, learned how to use Telpay for Business to make electronic payments. Now, instead of wasting time processing and printing cheques, they can simply create and send a file to Telpay and vendors receive payment electronically along with a detailed remittance report that provides complete payment details for accurate application of funds received. In addition, Telpay’s remote authorization feature allowed payments to be approved securely within minutes. The goal of The Chamber is to lead by example and so they encourage all their members to go “cheque-free” and try Telpay for Business.
Testimonial
“The notion of Manitoba taking the lead is exactly the kind of bold step we’d like to see Manitoba companies take. We recently went electronic because we think the Telpay business model is the way of the future. If we’re going to be an advocate, we need to walk the talk. That is why we are going cheque-free here at The Chamber and see this technology being the norm down the road.”
